Brief Historical Background
The creation of the Old Students’ Association of Sari Iganmu Secondary School (2000 SET) was conscientious, painstaking and imperative .
A group of like minded former boys and girls converged at Ojo Road, Ajegunle Apapa on the 27th of December, 2007, firstly to convene a re-union of some sorts since graduating SISS in the year 2000, but importantly to craft objectives that would provide a forum that:
– promotes the interests and welfare of old boys and girls
– perpetuate ties of esteem and affection formed during school days
– support the scientific, literary and social pursuits of the students of Sari Iganmu Secondary School
– honor and recognize the sacrifice and dedication of erstwhile teaching and nonteaching staff
The founding members had to adopt instigatiive strategies intended to convince other former students to join the Association. However, as typical of Associations in their formative years, early activities were fraught with challenges ranging from lack of space to convene meetings, to paucity of human and financial resources among several other issues which led to a lull.
After over half a decade of inertia, the group came together again in December 2014, this time, with a renewed enthusiasm for impact making.
By 2015, activities of the Association had become better defined with the Association formulating major objectives for implementation, one of which was the career talk program which held in the school compound, aimed at guiding and counseling students on making informed decisions bothering on their lifetime careers
A number of other student oriented projects were also carried out in the following years, supervised by committee members who saw to it that ideas morphed from conceptualization to implementation, including scholarship schemes, donation of notebooks, school sandals and uniforms to needy students.
As responsibilities expanded in scope, the need arose for a full fledged executive team which led to the emergence of a 7-member Exco under the leadership of Mr. Kayode Hammed, MBA, ANIPR – with the mandate to serve for a four year period.
The baton of leadership changed hands mid-2023 with Alhaji Sodiq Owolabi as successor. The new executives have hit the ground running and it’s safe to say the future of SARISEC 2000, as the group has come to be known, is in great hands.
